Palliative and End-of-Life Care
ANZCA supports:
- Death with dignity and comfort
- Provision of relief of suffering in the terminally ill, provided death is not the primary intent
- Provision of palliative care to restore quality of life and relieve pain and suffering
- The right of competent patients to decline or have treatement withdrawn, even if treatment is life saving
ANZCA does not support:
- Medical intervention of no benefit to the patient
- Medical intervention where the primary purpose is to end the life of the patient
